Kier Highways - Procurement Lead

Our Client

Kier are a leading provider of infrastructure services, construction and property developments and committed to delivering for communities and leaving lasting legacies through their work.

Turnover: £3.3bn, Employees: 14,000, Established: 1928.

Kier are a new client, this was the first assignment that we were provided following their appointment of the new Group Procurement Director, who we’ve worked with for many years.

Assignment Details

The Supply Chain Director for the Highways and Utilities business unit was looking to backfill a senior procurement representative who was retiring. It was important to fill this role first time to ensure business continuity was maintained and a reasonable handover period could be achieved.

AR Resourcing was appointed to recruit a Procurement Lead who could develop a strategic approach to the procurement of subcontractors and suppliers for the Highways business unit.

We were briefed to identify procurement and supply chain managers with strong infrastructure project experience It was important that candidates had a first class understanding of subcontractors procurement.

What We Did

We provided Kier our Contingent Exclusive (Plan 2) recruitment service, we were exclusive for a fixed period to identify, qualify and present suitable candidates.

We contacted our active and passive candidate network across all large infrastructure contractors nationally, as this role could be based from any local office.

As this was exclusive, we head hunted from a number of similar industry contractors to identify new candidates, and we prioritised this assignment over all Contingent roles.

We also advertised the role on our website, LinkedIn, job boards and our Job Alerts candidate email to help identify additional candidates.

The challenge with this assignment was finding candidates who had the right blend of senior stakeholder management together with hands on subcontract procurement  experience. When interviewing candidates we qualified their end to end subcontract procurement process, the type of projects they had managed and ensured they operated at director level when managing subcontractor stakeholders.

The Outcome

Nine CVs were shortlisted within two weeks and five candidates were selected for interview.

Two candidates were invited back for a final interview and the preferred candidate was successfully offered and appointed.

Here's what our client said...
This was the first time I have worked with Adam and AR Resourcing. The brief for this role was complex as we needed a variety of skills to fulfil the needs of the business as well as incorporate some change management into the delivery of the procurement service being provided. Timescales were critical to ensure a full handover and Adam provided a good selection of candidates which resulted in a timely and successful appointment.
